Christian Bible Lesson Overview

Christmas is a time to be with family and friends.  It is good to focus on those things you love about all those people who are close to you.  Of course, that is important.  It is also important to think about those who are in need and will not enjoy a happy Christmas.  It can be as simple as inviting a friend to spend Christmas with you when you know that friend is having a very difficult time.  You could also contribute to a charity that provides special Christmas meals for needy people.

One example of needy people would be people from Ukraine.   Some of these people have no electricity, food, water, etc.  There are many ways to contribute to their cause.

Regardless of which method you choose to help other people, think about people in need during Christmas and New Year’s Day and help those you believe need your help.

Christian Bible Lesson for Today

Joe with his sister and friends

Bill Williams is a junior in college studying to be an engineer.  He was excited about his two-week vacation for Christmas and the New Year.  He thought about all the things he wanted to do when he was home.   He wanted to go out with his friends and have a good time.  He already purchased gifts for his family.

When he arrived home, his sister Gloria was home.  He told her about his plans for the two weeks.  He already paid a deposit for a hotel in the mountain for himself and his friends.   He told Gloria she was welcome to go with him.  Gloria had a sad look on her face.  She told Bill that one of his friends, Joe, is in trouble.  Joe’s father lost his job, and they are about to be evicted from their house.  Bill said that was very sad, but he still wanted to go to the mountain with his friends.  He said he will see Joe when he returns from the trip.

Gloria was upset with Bill.  She told Bill that his friend was more important than a trip to the mountain.  Then Gloria left.

Bill thought about what Gloria said.  He did not have enough money to save Joe’s family house, but he decided to call a couple of his friends and see what they think.

Bill called Greg and told him about Joe’s situation.  Bill said that Joe would need several thousand dollars to save their house.  Canceling the mountain trip would only save a few hundred dollars.

Greg thought about it and then he told Bill that it is important to find a way to help Joe, but immediately we need to let him know that we care about him and his family.  Our entire group should meet and discuss how we can help Joe, even if it is not enough to solve all his problems.  Greg said he could not enjoy the trip to the mountain knowing that Joe will lose his house.

Bill thought about it and began to see Greg’s point.  Especially since it was Christmas.  It is important to think about other people.  Bill called his other friends, but his conversation was very different.  He wanted to have everyone think of ideas to raise money for Joe.

The result was that after a couple of days of discussing the situation, the group sponsored several events locally to raise money for Joe.  They did not raise enough to solve all of Joe’s challenges, but Joe was so happy because his friends really cared about him.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

It is important to spend time with your family and friends on Christmas and have a wonderful time.  It is also a good time to think about people in need.  It can just be a friend with minor challenges.  The important point is to spend some of your time during Christmas thinking about people who need help, especially people you know.
