Christian Bible Lesson Overview

Fasting is discussed throughout the entire Bible, Old Testimate and New Testimate.  One common theme throughout all the documented examples is the focus on God.  During some examples, the profits were experiencing conflicts and needed to focus all their attention on a single thought.

There are multiple types of Fasts discussed in the Bible.  Most of the Fasts denied all food and drink.  Although some allowed drinking water.  The Daniel fast was different.  He fasted for twenty-one straight days, but he ate fruit and vegetables directly from trees or plants.  Daniel was still able to focus as well as the other profits who Fasted.

The common theme among all the Fasts was single focus and dedication to God.

Christian Bible Lesson for Today

My picture during the Fast.

During this lesson, I will discuss my own experience with Fasting.  I started Fasting late in life.  I was over sixty years old.  At the time prior to my first Fast, I was experiencing a lot of conflicts, mainly with my business, but I had a stressful time with one of my daughters as well.

I had three children, two daughters, and one son.  My conflict was with my youngest child.  It felt strange because my youngest daughter was the person I was closest to in life.

I wrote a book called “Life Enhancement with Jesus”.  The book was the story of my life and how much I benefited from being a Christian.   The book covered many personal experiences where I had to make decisions that affected the rest of my life.  One of those experiences was with my youngest daughter.  She was a senior in high school.  She wanted to have an all-night sleepover in the woods with friends from school and have no adult supervision.

My Christian beliefs would not allow me to approve of the plan.  Her mother, older sister, and others supported her. She did not spend the night, but after her graduation, she moved from my house to live with her older sister.  I went to see her and she did move back with me at a later date and we were very close again.

Then over twenty years later when I wrote a book, I included the incident with my daughter’s graduation party in the book.  I gave my daughter a copy of the draft before the book was published.   My daughter immediately demanded that I take everything about her out of the book and she became distant to me like she was after her graduation from high school.  She did not wish to talk with me.  This hurt so much because I was closer to her than anyone else for so many years.

I was so stressed that it affected my work, my personal life, and my ability to concentrate.  Then I lead a Bible Study class about the book of Danel.  That was the first time I really thought about the Daniel Fast.  I was so stressed at the time.  Daniel was also stressed when he Fasted.  The Daniel Fast is for twenty-one days, but you can eat raw fruit and vegetables.  I did fast for the entire twenty-one days.  It was amazing.  I was able to focus much better.  I did not understand how Fasting would help me think, but I asked my doctor about it and my doctor told me that when you Fast for more than forty hours, your body develops CBD and that helps you focus.  The Daniel Fast allowed me to think about my daughter and focus on other things at the same time like my work and my wife.

Then I read many sections of the Bible that covered other Fasts, like Moses, other profits, and Jesus.  I combined the advice from the Bible with the advice from my doctor from Kaiser and did a forty-eight-hour fast once a week for one entire year.  I did drink water during the forty-hour Fasts, but nothing else.  It was amazing.  I was not able to be close to my daughter again, but I did see things so much clearer.  It affected all aspects of my life.  I could think about situations and see other points of view.

My relationship has not completely recovered, but the experience I had with her led me to Fast.  I have her to thank for that.  Although my Fasts were a Christian experience, I can see how everyone can benefit from the experience.  The ability to focus was amazing for me.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

As I mentioned, there are a lot of different types of Fasts, I learned about Fasting from the Bible, but there is plenty of medical documentation that supports the benefits.  My life was moving in the wrong direction prior to the year that I did the forty-eight-hour Fast every week.
