Bible Verses

“The prudent carefully consider their steps. The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence. Short-tempered people do foolish things, and schemers are hated. Simpletons are clothed with foolishness, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.”– Proverbs 14:16-18

“ Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15-16

“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”– Joshua 1:9

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”– Colossians 4:6

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”- Luke 6:38

Christian Bible Lesson Overview

It is always important to think about situations and evaluate them prior to acting.  Even if you are being verbally attacked by someone, take time to think about the situation and evaluate your best response.

It is important to think about how your actions affect you and the other people near you.  It is much more important to live up to your values than to respond to someone attacking you with anger.

It is critical that you live up to your values and that you demonstrate to other people that your strength is that you care about everyone, even those who express anger toward you.  Attacking someone who attacks you compromises your Christian values.

Sometimes when you respond to offensive behavior with kindness, it causes the other person to have second thoughts about their behavior.  Even if the other person does not respond in a positive manner, you will have stayed true to your values.

Christian Bible Lesson for Today

Gloria meeting with her Professor

Gloria was a lawyer in a law firm located in a mid-sized city in Colorado.  Gloria decided to run for the City Council Seat in her city.  She organized a team of sixteen friends to help her with the campaign and the overall strategy.

After about five months, Gloria began speaking in public about her ideas for the direction of her city.   During one speech she was interrupted by a man who yelled that Gloria did not know what she was doing and had no business running for a public office.  He accused her of not being prepared and trying to make herself look good.

Without thinking, Gloria immediately responded by telling the man that he did not know what he was talking about and that he should leave and keep his mouth shut.

One reporter who attended the speech wrote a news article about the event. The main point of the article was that Gloria lost control when she was criticized.

Gloria was devastated.  She was not sure what to do. She talked with one of her professors, Professor Summers, about the situation.  Professor. Summers told her that she should not have responded so quickly, she should have taken time to think.  Then she could have responded by telling the man that she is sorry he feels that way, but she is prepared and ready to help the community.  Professor. Summers told Gloria that attaching the man did not help her.

Gloria thought about the situation and decided that Professor Summers had a good point.  Gloria made a public apology for her statements.  She did not win the election, but she learned an important lesson.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

When someone attacks us, it is important to maintain our own character. Do not act like someone else to hurt them.  Be consistent regardless of the circumstances.  Someone may get away with bad behavior sometimes but do not allow other people to damage your character.
