Christian Bible Lesson Overview

In this lesson when we talk about family, we include close friends and everyone you care about.  Family and close friends are so important in our lives.  We must strive hard to always view our family and close friends as special elements of our lives and not judge them based on a specific act.  When faced with challenging situations with our family members, we must think about our committed relationship first and then take time to consider any specific negative act.

Always separate a negative act from your relationship with a family member or friend and work with the other person to resolve a specific action without damaging the relationship.

The room while Ramond was yelling at Sid

Raymond and his brother Sid work on the same sales team.  They sell stocks and mutual funds to investors that are part of an investment group sponsored by the company where they work.  They have a list of the contacts in the investment group.  They call a contact and present ideas for stock purchases.  If a purchase is the result of the call, the person who originated the call processes the sale and receives a commission for that sale on their next paycheck. 

Raymond had a very complicated and lengthy call with a prospective customer.  He narrowed the stock purchase to a few titles and then the caller had to leave the call, but the caller left a phone number to call back.  Raymond made notes and then left for lunch.

Sid saw Raymond leaving for lunch.  Sid went to Ramond’s desk and noticed the note about the potential purchase.  Sid knew that Ramond had a doctor’s appointment after lunch.   Sid decided it was not good to wait too long before calling the potential customer.  He wanted to help Raymond. 

Sid made the call and was able to complete the sale.  Sid recorded the sale at the front desk under Raymond’s name.

When Raymond returned from his doctor’s appointment, he immediately called the number from his notes. The caller explained that he completed the purchase with Sid.

Raymond was very angry. He did not take time to consider what had happened and at least approached Sid to learn what happened.  Instead of taking time to think, Raymond yelled at Sid across the room.  He accused him of stealing.  Everyone in the room heard the discussion.  Sid was in shock.  He tried to get Raymond to listen to him. 

Then the Vice President of the firm walked into the room and approached Raymond. He congratulated Raymond on his sale and noted what a good job he did to increase the sales by adding two other stocks. 

Raymond felt awful.  He did not even check to see that Sid had given him credit for the entire sale, even though two additional stocks were added.  He did not know what to do since he had already attacked his brother in front of everyone in the room.

Sid was upset, but he let some time pass while he thought about it.  Raymond was always a great brother, and he did not wish to lose him.  Sid walked up to Raymond and told him that he understood why Raymond thought Sid took his sale.  He said, “Please understand that I would never do that”.   You are my brother and I love you. 

Raymond realized what an awful mistake he made, and he was happy that his brother did not make the same mistake.  Raymond decided to never react before learning the details of the situation and even then, always take the fact that the other person is a family member into consideration.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

It is always important to think about a situation prior to reacting to it.  When you are having a conflict with a family member or close friend it is especially important to think thoroughly prior to acting.

Family members and close friends are developed over many years.  Do not risk those special relationships because of one or a few mistakes.  Relationships are critical to us having successful lives, do not risk your own success to attack someone else.
