Christian Bible Lesson Overview

Do not allow fear to control your life.  It is important to be careful, but not to the point of allowing fear to control how you grow.  It makes perfect sense to avoid danger, but it makes no sense to avoid working toward a goal because you are afraid of failing.  Think about what you wish to do with your life and guide yourself in that direction.  Always have support from God as the backbone of your life plan and make sure you contribute to God and other people.  Do not allow fear to completely control how you grow and work with other people.

Christian Bible Lesson for Today

Wallace was a hard-working son of a very successful building developer.  Wallace worked hard in school and helped his father during his free time.  He developed a lot of strength both physically and with his knowledge from working hard at college and spending a lot of hours with his father.

However, he wanted so much to be respected by his father, that he did not have the courage to take any risks.  He wanted to make sure his father saw him as a successful person, so he was more concerned with not making mistakes than he was with achieving positive results.

After Wallace completed college, he worked for his father full-time.  He managed the sales effort to secure new projects.  After he managed the sales department for a few months, the overall revenue for the company decreased.  Wallace’s father was very busy managing the main part of the company.  He did not spend very much time reviewing the sales effort because he believed in his son.  As the revenue continued to decrease, Wallace’s father reviewed the sales effort over the past few months.  He learned that Wallace had not been aggressive in several sales and lost them.  Wallace told his father that he was concerned that the jobs may take more hours than projected.

The father explained that at this rate they will be out of business in less than a year.  He tried to communicate to Wallace that some risks were not only necessary but an important part of growing a business.  It is very important not to take too many risks or not to take major risks, but it is impossible to stay in business without taking some risks.  The father decided to spend significant time over the next six months working with his son on sales.  He wanted to help his son understand when to exercise the courage and strength to take risks he evaluated and determined were not 100% guaranteed but had a good probability of success.

It took almost a year for the father to work with Wallace, but the time was well spent.  Wallace changed his approach to his job and the rest of his life.  He learned to exercise strength and courage while evaluating situations and taking some risks that have a high probability of success.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

We cannot be successful in life without taking some risks.  It is important to evaluate situations and make sound judgments.  Of course, we need to evaluate risks and make sure we believe we will be successful.  If you do not have the courage or strength to make evaluations and take risks when we believe we will be successful, we will not grow.  Strength and courage are traits we develop.  It takes experiencing success to make those traits major parts of our lives.  It also takes the wisdom to evaluate situations to make sure the risks are not too great.

We must always consider the effect risks have on other people but have the courage and strength to take risks we evaluate to be workable.
