Bible Verse

“For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” — Matthew 6:21
Christian Lesson Bible Overview

The choices you make when spending your money shape your life. When you make donations to causes that help people in need, you are focusing your life to help others. When you spend your money with your family and special friends, your focus is on sharing with them, which strengthens your relationships. When you spend your money on your education or training, your focus is on your growth and development. It is important to plan how you spend your money. Review your goals and make sure they are consistent with the direction you wish to travel.
Christian Bible Lesson for Today

During my college years and my time in the Marine Corps, I did not have the opportunity to make many spending choices. After starting my business, I made plans to buy a nice house, drive a nice car, and experience special events. My heart was not dedicated to helping the needy or spending time with my extended family. The goal of purchasing expensive possessions consumed most of my time and energy. I had little time for my children or extended family. I was not thinking about the needy at all.
My Goals Changed
I divorced my wife and began to develop a new life. My children stayed with my former wife initially. My former wife had a talk with me about my son. She said I needed to spend more time with him. I knew I had not devoted enough time or resources to my children. I prayed for help. I re-evaluated my life. The first step I took was to take my son on several hiking trips. Before making this commitment, I would not have had the time away from the business to go on hiking trips. After thinking about my entire situation, I realized I needed to change my spending habits and focus more on important things.
Result Of Changing Priorities
After I changed my spending habits, I found ways to take my children on trips all over the world. I felt so good about helping them experience other cultures and spending time together. I did take all three of them on some camping trips, but generally, my daughters and I stayed in hotels. We have memories that add value to our lives all the time. After one year of taking trips on the Children’s school vacations, my son and youngest daughter began living with me. Living with them was the most important decision I made during those years.
Christian Bible Lesson Summary
After I adjusted my life to spend time with my children, I began to help my friends and needy people. It seemed like I always had enough resources to live my life and help other people. I learned a lot from the Christian Lessons regarding how to help the needy people. I always seemed to have the resources to do what I needed to do. The important lesson for me was to establish priorities, and the car I drive or restaurant where I eat is not as important as satisfying my heart.
