Bible Verse

“’Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?’ Jesus said to him, ‘“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.’”  Matthew 22:36-38

Christian Bible Lesson Overview

We must remember that God is the source of everything.  We would have nothing without God.  If we love God first, everything else will be in its rightful place.  Following the teachings of Jesus will not only help you to become closer to God; but, by following the lessons of Jesus, your life on earth will improve.  God gave us the gift of free moral will.  Because of that gift, we can choose choices that benefit us but hurt others.  We have the gift to choose the path we wish to follow.  If we always make God #1 and love him with all our hearts, we will choose the right track.

Christian Bible Lesson for Today

Jim Brandt

When I first started my business, I thought maintaining profits and to grow the company was the most critical objective.  I was harsh with staff members and did not always treat customers with respect.  The profitability of the company was an essential goal, and everything else was a distant second.  My family life and the Church were second to the business.

Running the business with profit as the only objective worked for a little while, but many challenges began to affect the company.  The customers did not have loyalty to the services provided by the company, and the staff did not stay in the company long term.

As the challenges of running the business became significant, I began to think about my business when I was in Church.  I look at the basic lessons taught in the Sermon on the Mount in the Book of Matthew, and I realized I was wrong about many things.  I decided to make significant changes.  The first thing I did was to develop open relationships with the customers.  I listened to their concerns.  I did not always do what the customer wanted, but I did still give the customer respect.  I made it clear that our company established mutually beneficial business relationships.  When I analyzed the impact on profits over a year or more, working with the customers helped the earnings of the company.

I also changed how I worked with the staff.  I learned from the Christian Lessons to treat everyone with respect, even if they were enemies.  I gave that some thought and decided to try treating everyone with respect.  After a couple of weeks, I found that when I treated everyone with respect, the result was positive.  I learned more about how people analyzed situations.  Two people were difficult even when I treated them with respect, but several other people responded positively.  Now I make it a point always to treat everyone with respect at work, in the family, or social.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

By making God #1 and always loving God, I apply his lessons to everything that I do.  That includes how I treat those people who are unfriendly to me.  Not only am I faithful to God, but my life here is also so much better.
