“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” 2 Corinthians 9:6
Christian Bible Lesson Overview
The generous people who help other people will prosper and have plenty. This verse does not mean that we need to give everything to needy people. It is acceptable to acquire things you desire while contributing to the needs of other people. It is essential to set the example of a successful person who contributes to the welfare of others. Show other people that you can both have a successful life and help other people satisfy their needs.
It is best to contribute anonymously to needy people, so they do not feel obligated to you. Suppose you help other people to build your reputation. In that case, your contribution has obligations attached to it, and it is not nearly as substantial a contribution as the one you made anonymously.
Christian Bible Lesson for Today
I grew up in a small town in Northern California called Paradise. The entire town was lost to a forest fire two years ago. I have many friends from childhood who lost their homes, have no jobs, and need to rebuild their lives. Many of my friends rented camper trailers to stay on their property until the land was approved to build a new home.
Their most immediate needs were to purchase pots, pans, silverware, and other items to help them survive until they can rebuild their lives. The main store in Chico (twelve miles from Paradise) was Lowes. My wife and I purchased $250 gift certificates from Lowes. Then I talked with a close friend of mine who still lived in Paradise. I gave him the gift certificates. He gave the certificates to my other friends. He understood that he was not to let anyone know I purchased the certificates.
An uncle of one of my childhood friends became a Pastor and started a Christian Church. The Church was just outside of Paradise and did not burn completely. I attended a Church service and talked with many of the people who lost their homes. It was an excellent way to let people know some people cared about them.
I also was able to contribute money to the Salvation Army through the Progressive Democratic Club for the specific purpose of helping people in Paradise who lost their homes.
Christian Bible Lesson Summary
There are many ways to help people in need. You can gain plenty of satisfaction from knowing you contributed to suffering people without receiving credit. There are times when it is appropriate to make contributions public to attract donations from other people.
