“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: for he beholdenth himself and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. ” James 1:22-24
Christian Bible Lesson Overview
We have all experienced or observed people who learn the importance of being honest, supportive, helpful, understanding, and many other traits to improve their lives and help others. Still, when faced with difficult circumstances, we ignore what we learned.
Many people can study and learn how to be a good and honest person, but very few can apply that understanding when faced with significant challenges. Knowing and not using is especially true with Christian Lessons. Our initial thought during a crisis may be to relieve the stress as quickly as possible, even if that means misleading others. It is essential to stop and think about the long-term consequences and act based on your beliefs, not the least detrimental outcome for a specific situation.
Christian Bible Lesson for Today
In my business, I sell business software our company developed. Many times customers will call with problems they experienced while using the software. In some cases, working with the customer to satisfy the challenge takes time and resources. Sometimes the customer did something contrary to the training. Our software training may have been misleading. It would be more profitable to tell the customer that the situation would not have happened if they followed the procedures. Therefore, we need to bill them for the labor to fix the transaction.
However, the right solution is to explain that the training was misleading and work with them.
Although there is an initial financial gain when misleading the customer, the business will not be as strong over the long term. I learned so many times that when I was honest with the customer and worked to help them, I was always much better over the long term because customers referred new customers and stayed with our company much longer. However, it is better, to be honest, even if it was not a financial benefit over the long term.
