Bible Verses

“And the Tung is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell.  For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind: but the tongue can no man tame; it is a restless evil, it is full of deadly poison. ”  James 3:6-8

“There is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is health.” Proverbs 12:18

Christian Bible Lesson Overview

One of the reasons people control all living creatures in the world is because of language.  The ability to communicate among ourselves allows us to improve from generation to generation because we record our history.  We can plan and execute through communication.  We express desires and expectations.

Our ability to communicate does not always lead to positive outcomes.  Sometimes when we use our tongues prior to thinking about the effect on other people, we create damage that can be difficult to repair.  Of course, you wish to be constructive to other people, but taking the time to communicate properly will lead to a better outcome for you and others in the conversation.

It takes focus and an understanding of Christian Lessons to maintain the discipline to think before reacting to challenging situations with family, friends, and other people. However, if you make the effort to think before reacting to a stressful moment, the benefit to you and other people affected may be more than worth the effort.

Christian Bible Lesson for Today

I am active in a Political Party.  I attend meetings regularly and help candidates campaign for elected office.  I have many conversations every week with family, friends, and co-workers about political issues.  It is easy to argue against the positions of other people.  It is much more difficult to think about their point of few and try to see what they see.

I support helping people who flee from other countries and seek refuge here in the United States.  I want to help people who are not able to help themselves.  However, recently I was in a discussion with a family member who believes the United States should take care of their citizens first, then look at people from other countries.  My first reaction was to argue that some people have no chance, and we must help them if we can. However, I stopped and thought about it.  Then I did a little research about the vital support issues of healthcare, food, and housing.  I discovered that my family member could not afford basic healthcare that was needed very badly.  I also discovered that undocumented people in the same neighborhood received free health care for the same health challenge.  I suddenly began to see my family member’s point of view.

My future conversations were much more respectful because I made the effort to understand the situation prior to reacting.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

A critical part of the Christian Lesson is to not react negatively without first taking the time to understand the situation and consider other’s situation.  Not only will the other people be spared immediate humiliation, but your situation will improve as well.
