Bible Verse

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” Matthew 6:24

Christian Bible Lesson Overview

It is important to understand that money is not evil.  When money is loved above everything else, the result is always trouble.  Everything we have comes directly from God.   When your focus on money is stronger than your focus on God, you are worshiping money, and you will lose the most important support of all, the support from God.

Christian Bible Lesson for Today

Jim Brandt

There have been times in my life when I allowed money to be too important.  These were times when I experienced financial challenges and did not consider all my options.  One specific time I decided to resign from my job because a manager was selling drugs during work, and the owner of the company allowed the activity to continue.  My son was a senior in high school.  He was visiting colleges he wished to attend.  I felt desperate for money.  Then I realized that money was not the answer to my challenge with my son going to college.

I prayed for help to solve my son’s college challenge, not for money.  Within a couple of days, a good friend of mine who was a member of congress called me.  He needed my help at an event he was planning.  I talked with him about my son.  He called the colleges my son wished to attend and provided me with all the options for attending those colleges.  My son was very happy.  I still have the challenge of raising the money to provide for him.

Two days later, a previous customer called me and asked if I could manage a project for him.  I agreed to do the work.  He paid me a retainer that was enough to cover the initial college expenses.  I realized how true the notion is that money is not important; having the resources to accomplish things is important.  Sometimes those resources include money, but it is the ability to find a way to achieve objectives that matters, not accumulating money.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

As my children were growing, I taught them that money is not important, finding a way to accomplish things was.  When I took them on trips to Europe, South America, New Zealand, and Australia, I did not have a lot of money, but I did accumulate airline mileage.  Make God number one in your life and work to accomplish goals that benefit everyone.
