Bible Verses

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  Matthew 26: 25-27

Christian Bible Lesson Overview

The main point of these verses is that worrying about your life or stressing about your future will not add value to your life.  This does not mean that you should not plan or think about challenges.  It means that you should not spend your time worrying or allowing yourself to stress and harm your health.   As it states in the verses, worrying does not add a single hour to your life.

Frequently we spend time worrying about challenges instead of spending time planning responses.  It takes a lot of discipline to not worry when faced with awful situations, but by following these verses and maintaining your focus on the best path for you, your family, friends, or associates, you will experience a better result and not damage your health from worry.

Christian Bible Lesson for Today

George reviewing tax return with preparer

George met with his tax preparer to complete his income tax return.  After he completed the meeting and went home, he realized that he forgot to provide the tax preparer with one of the documents for his mortgage interest payments.  The document included over $4,000 of interest payments.  He immediately informed the tax preparer about the mistake.  The tax preparer told him to email the form.

George sent the form by email that night.  He left the preparer a message that stated he would drive over to sign the updated form as soon as it is ready.  The tax preparer did not contact George for a week.

George worried about his return.  George remembered how important it was the previous year to process the return as early as possible.  He kept thinking about how much he needed the money.  The stress caused George to feel bad and not be productive.

Georg’s wife told him that worrying about the return was not going to complete it faster.  She told him he has done everything he can, now he needs to pay attention to other things in his life.  He thought about it and realized his wife was correct.  He realized he did all he could and worrying would not complete the tax return any faster.

After four days, the tax preparer contacted George and let him know he had the updated forms ready for him.  George processed the tax return and received his funds three weeks later.

All the time George spent worrying about completing his tax return did not improve anything.

Christian Bible Lesson Summary

Worry and stress do not add value to your life.  Of course, it is important to plan and address problems, but worrying about your challenges will not improve your situation.

  1. Correct! Worrying only wastes your valuable time and energy – nothing is gained.
